Apenas alguns meses depois de seu casamento com o astro do futebol americano Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift fez história no domingo ao se tornar a artista mais premiada da história do MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). Aos 36 anos, a cantora chegou a 31 estatuetas após receber o primeiro prêmio de distinção ao diretor artístico, conquistado por seu trabalho nos bastidores dos videoclipes.
Antes da cerimônia, Taylor estava empatada com Beyoncé, com 30 troféus cada uma. A nova premiação desempatou a disputa histórica.
A cantora também venceu o prêmio de Vídeo do Ano, que dedicou à falecida lenda da música country Dolly Parton.
Swift aproveitou a cerimônia para estrear o videoclipe de seu novo single, “Patient Zero”, estrelado pelos atores Colin Farrell e Dakota Johnson.
Madonna abriu cerimônia
Taylor, porém, ficou sem prêmios em algumas das categorias mais importantes, como Artista do Ano, vencida por Madonna.
A cantora de 68 anos, conhecida por protagonizar um dos momentos mais lembrados da história dos VMAs ao beijar Britney Spears e Christina Aguilera no palco, em 2003, abriu a cerimônia com sua primeira apresentação no evento desde aquela noite.

Nirvana recebe o Video Vanguard
A banda de grunge Nirvana foi homenageada com o prêmio Video Vanguard. Foi o primeiro grupo a receber a principal honraria em mais de 20 anos.
O vocalista e guitarrista Kurt Cobain morreu por suicídio em 1994, após o sucesso dos álbuns “Nevermind” e “In Utero”.
— O Nirvana continua repercutindo tão profundamente porque as pessoas continuam famintas por autenticidade — declarou o baixista Krist Novoselic. — Algo real, algo sem concessões. Algo que diz que está tudo bem vir do jeito que você é.
A maior parte dos prêmios foi entregue fora do palco, em uma noite marcada principalmente pelas apresentações musicais e pelas excentricidades. O rapper Snoop Dogg apresentou a cerimônia, transmitida pelas redes CBS e MTV.
